The life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) spans sixty-three years, during which he lived among ordinary people in society. Even before the declaration of his prophethood in Makkah, his life was deeply rooted in social interactions. During these years, he presented such a high standard of moral character to the people of Makkah that when he once asked them, "If I were to say that an army is approaching from behind this mountain, would you believe me?" they all responded affirmatively. This trust was not built in a day or two but was the result of forty years of the Prophet’s (PBUH) hard work and exemplary life. The people of Makkah were so impressed by the Prophet’s (PBUH) high morals and character that they honored him with the titles of "Al-Sadiq" (The Truthful) and "Al-Amin" (The Trustworthy).
When the Prophet (PBUH) decided to migrate to Madinah following Allah's command, he ensured that the belongings of the disbelievers entrusted to him were returned, arranging for this through Imam Ali (AS). Upon his arrival in Madinah, the Prophet (PBUH) established a society based on Islamic and Qur'anic principles. The most distinguishing feature of this society was the Prophet’s (PBUH) exemplary character. This society was unique because the Prophet (PBUH) promoted the highest standards of social conduct. He set guidelines on various aspects of social life, such as the rights of spouses, the behavior towards parents, the upbringing of children, and the conduct of marriages. Additionally, he provided directives on how to treat neighbors, non-Muslims, and guests, as well as how to ensure the rights of the oppressed sections of society. He also addressed how orphans and widows should be cared for.
The Prophet (PBUH) resolved all these social issues in the light of the divine message of the Qur'an. In this article, we will attempt to understand this aspect of the Prophet’s (PBUH) noble life in the light of the Qur'an.
