Abstract
This is an undeniable fact that Orientalists, in general, did not approach the study of Islam objectively. They presented a distorted and unreal image of Islam for their specific purposes. Their effort was to present Islam in a way that it did not appear as an extraordinary and distinct phenomenon, but rather as something that fit within the path of human progress and civilization. In this regard, they worked on multiple aspects and brought forth various results.
Looking at it from the perspective of Islamic scholars, their main aim was to make Muslims doubtful and skeptical about their religion, to reduce Islamic values and culture in comparison to Western values and culture, and to convince them that they cannot progress and flourish while adhering to their traditional Islamic beliefs. They wanted Muslims to believe that they must abandon their Islamic heritage and follow Western values, which they considered to be superior.
In this article, we study the efforts of Orientalists and their results with respect to the aforementioned objectives.
