Praise be to Allah who is the creator of the universe, who in the age of darkness, ignorance and lawlessness, polytheism and idolatry, revealed the greatest blessing, the last book— the Holy Qur'an to his last Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Prior to the revelation of the divine book, the Arab and non-Arab societies were in darkness, tribes were suffering from the cancer of polytheism and idolatry, there was a lack of national unity and intellectual integrity while civilization and culture were on the decline, Islamic teachings were distorted and misinterpreted, the rule of ‘Might is Right’ was prevalent and the feudal system was in force, which had unleashed a reign of oppression in the society.
The Qur'an is a book of guidance for humanity. It was, however, revealed to an Ummi [illiterate] of the Arab peninsula. It changed the destiny of the nations. Those who buried the girls alive became their saviors. Those who quarreled over trivial matters started sacrificing for others. The Holy Qur'an demands of the Muslims to improve their lives by adhering to the teachings of Holy Qur'an and remove the doubts of the people by adopting to its injunctions.
