The Qur'an, altogether, rejects absurd and concocted logic, which is called blind following of our forefathers. The Quran says: “What! Even if their forefathers were devoid of understanding and right guidance?” Should we follow them despite knowing that they were uneducated, ignorant and superstitious? Isn't this an example of imitating the ignorant?
The issue of nationalism and national prejudices, especially those related to ancestors, existed among polytheists in particular and other people in general from the day one and it continues to prevail even today. However, Godly people and believers reject this [ancestral] logic. The Holy Qur'an has on many occasions condemned the blind following of the forefathers and prejudice and rejected it.
In principle, the result of handing over one's intellect and thought to the elders is nothing but retrogression and conventionalism, because generally the later generations have more knowledge and awareness than the previous ones.
Regrettably, such ignorant way of thinking is still prevalent among many people and nations and they worship their elders like idols and accept certain superstitious customs and practices without hesitation just because they were adored by their forefathers. They give them attractive connotations like protection of nationality, preservation of historical documents, etc. This way of thinking is a means of transferring myths from one generation to another.
