The Qur'an is the last book of Allah and it is the Book of Guidance, which offers solutions to every problem faced by the mankind. Guidance and leadership is an important need of the society, so the Holy Quran has clear instructions in this regard. The purpose of this article is to explore the prerequisites for leadership and guidance according to the Qur'anic way of life. In this regard, when one comes across Qur'anic verses while reading the Book which clearly mention the perquisites for leadership and guidance. They can be summarized into five categories. The first characteristic is faith which is necessary for every important responsibility, the second characteristic is knowledge without which according to Qur'an man is like blind, the third characteristic is courage and bravery which is absolute requirement of the leadership, the fourth characteristic is the good planning and tactics which is also important for taking any responsibility. The fifth characteristic, which is actually a combination of many characteristics, is taqwa [God fearing]. For godly leadership, a man should possess all these characteristics and they include humility, generosity, justice, openheartedness, principality, patience and foresight. On the whole, the Qur'an describes the leadership that guides towards the right path should be equipped with all the qualities that a pious person should possess.
