According to the Holy Quran, family is a holy system with its clear and distinct limits which should be preserved and respected by all members of society; otherwise there would be several negative outcomes. Nowadays, given the changes in the views about family and prevalence of its new and unconventional models, the general structure of family is subject to some changes whose fundamental factors are abnormality and violating family limits. The present research was conducted with the aim of evaluating the family limits in psychology and explaining them from the view of Islam. It is a descriptive research which analyzes the content of more than one hundred Quranic verses and infallible Imam's sayings in this regard. The results show that Islamic approach regards family as a holy system with its real limits imposed by God. Family conflicts can be resolved only through returning and commitment to these divine limits. These limits are divine injunctions, prohibitions, and permissions which are defined to regulate the family and transcend it and its members. Family internal and external limits are of three kinds (ideological, moral, and behavioral) having two characteristics of "inflexible obligatory and flexible optional". The priority of ideological relation over kinship relation, the quality of family formation and breakup, the limits of sexual relationships between spouses, preserving the limits of house and family, the rules governing the relationships between family members and their relationships with others, and the hierarchy of Hijab are among the most important family limits. The structuralist approach cannot be applied to religious societies due to its relative incompatibility with Islamic teachings. Therefore, it is suggested to return to religious limits of family.
