Woman forms the basic component of any society. She is central to the diversity and scintillating nature of universe. It is in this backdrop that the holy Quran has highlighted the greatness of woman, terming her existence as guarantor of society’s formation, building and survival. The significance of woman is in no way less than man, rather sometimes she probably becomes more important than man because a man after gaining knowledge can become beneficial for his family at the most whereas impacts of woman’s education spread to city and society besides influencing her own home and family. Only a better woman can lay the foundations of human civilization. This research paper is based on three parts. Firstly, it talks about the individual character of woman, discussing her responsibilities in personal capacity when she engages in reforming herself and becoming acquainted with Islamic teachings, and it is after this that she can play role in the development of a society. In the second part, her family role has been discussed because a woman can play constructive role in various ways in the development and formation of an effective and dignified family. Thirdly, her collective role has been debated and it is said that she can play unique role in the collective as well as societal progress and development. In order to prove the point, the author has given some historical evidences and presented role models of some highly respected and venerated figures such as Hazrat Asiya, Hazrat Maryam, Hazrat Khadija, Hazrat Fatima and Hazrat Zainab.
