Abstract

Abstract
In contemporary society, human relationships are increasingly characterized by temporary, transactional, and emotionally utilitarian patterns, often shaped by convenience, digital communication, social media culture, and short-term gratification. While such relational models may offer immediate satisfaction and flexibility, they frequently weaken long-term commitment and emotional depth. These evolving patterns not only reshape family and community structures but also generate significant psychological challenges, including loneliness, emotional instability, attachment insecurity, reduced trust, and declining relational satisfaction.
This study examines transient and transactional relationships from both psychological and sociological perspectives and evaluates them in light of Qur’anic ethical principles. The primary objectives are to identify the psychosocial causes and consequences of these relationship patterns, analyze their impact on emotional well-being, attachment formation, and moral responsibility, and explore how Qur’anic guidance can provide a framework for healthier, value-based, and sustainable interpersonal bonds.
A qualitative research methodology is employed, integrating sociological theories of modernity, contemporary psychological research on attachment and relational behavior, and thematic analysis of selected Qur’anic texts. Through this interdisciplinary approach, the study highlights recurring relational trends, ethical tensions, and the interaction between social behavior and mental health outcomes.
The findings suggest that although transient relationships may appear socially normalized and convenient, they often erode emotional resilience, hinder trust development, and diminish long-term relational fulfillment. The study therefore recommends promoting emotional literacy, ethical commitment, and community-based guidance initiatives that integrate psychological insight with Qur’anic ethical values to strengthen both social cohesion and individual well-being.
