Abstract

The research article titled "The Concept of Recreation in the Qur’anic Way of Life and a Comparative Study of Contemporary Recreational Concepts" presents a critical and analytical study of the meaning, limits, objectives, and modern trends of recreation in the light of Islamic teachings. The primary objective of this study is to highlight the differences between the Qur’anic concept of recreation and contemporary recreational perspectives.
The study reveals that Islam recognizes recreation as a natural requirement of human beings; however, it connects recreational activities with moral values, moderation, purposefulness, and positive character building. In the Qur’anic way of life, recreation is not merely a source of amusement or time consumption; rather, it provides physical and mental relaxation, promotes healthy activities, strengthens family and social relationships, and contributes to moral development. In contrast, contemporary recreational concepts often promote, through mass media, activities that exceed ethical boundaries and lead to obscenity, immorality, and cultural disorder.
The article also analyzes the positive and negative role of mass media and emphasizes that media should be utilized for truth, honesty, social reform, and the promotion of decent recreation. Finally, the study presents recommendations for the improvement of recreational activities and media practices according to Islamic principles. The research concludes that the Islamic concept of recreation fulfills human needs while playing a significant role in the moral, spiritual, and social development of individuals and society.
