Abstract

This article presents a concise scholarly study of Islamic teachings on interfaith social relations in the light of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It explains that Islam offers a complete and balanced system of life that guides humanity from ignorance to knowledge, from doubt to certainty, and from moral confusion to ethical clarity. The Qur’an emphasizes justice, compassion, and respectful dialogue with People of the Book, inviting them to common principles of faith and worship of one God without associating partners with Him. The Seerah of the Prophet ﷺ provides a practical model of coexistence, showing exemplary tolerance, kindness, and protection of rights for non-Muslims, including Jews, Christians, and others who lived under Islamic governance. His life reflects numerous instances of forgiveness, peaceful engagement, and fulfillment of covenants. The article also highlights the practices of the rightly guided Caliphs, who ensured the protection of life, property, honor, and religious freedom for non-Muslim citizens, establishing a just and inclusive social order. Historical accounts of Muslim saints and scholars further demonstrate how Islamic spirituality promoted interfaith harmony and mutual respect through character and service. In conclusion, the study affirms that the authentic Islamic worldview is rooted in peace, justice, and coexistence, where human dignity is safeguarded and interfaith relations are based on fairness, respect, and moral responsibility, forming a timeless framework for a harmonious society.
