Abstract
This paper presents an analytical study of the Qur’anic concept of human rights in light of the thoughts of Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei. The Holy Qur’an regards mankind as the noblest of creatures and grants fundamental rights such as the right to life, freedom, justice, equality, and human dignity. According to Ayatollah Khamenei, the true foundation of human rights is monotheism (tawhid), through which man attains liberation from servitude to anything other than God and achieves real freedom. In contrast, the claims of human rights in Western capitalist and liberal systems remain mere slogans, serving mainly the interests of powerful nations. Islam, however, establishes human rights on divine principles and makes the establishment of justice and equality essential.
The article highlights that in the modern era, Western notions of human rights have failed due to their weak foundations. Genuine human dignity and freedom can only be realized through Islamic teachings, which ensure peace, justice, and progress for both individuals and societies. Consequently, this research concludes that Islam—particularly in the light of Ayatollah Khamenei’s vision—provides a comprehensive and universal charter of human rights that stands as the only path to the salvation of humanity.
