This research paper presents the fundamental and unanimously agreed-upon Islamic doctrine of Khatm-e-Nubuwwat (Finality of Prophethood) in the light of contemporary Shi'a commentaries written in the Urdu language. This belief—on which there is consensus among all Islamic schools of thought and which serves as evidence of the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him and his family) being the last Messenger—has long been a subject of deep scholarly discussion among exegetes.
The primary objective of this study is to conduct a thorough analysis of the arguments presented in selected Shi'a exegeses regarding Khatm-e-Nubuwwat, especially in relation to relevant Qur'anic verses (most notably Surah Al-Ahzab, verse 40), and to comprehensively explore the well-reasoned and systematic responses provided by exegetes to the intellectual and textual objections raised by modern-day deniers of the Finality of Prophethood.
This paper consists of two main parts and a concluding summary:
Part One: This section offers an explanation of the key Qur'anic verses that establish the belief in the Finality of Prophethood. It elaborates on the interpretations, arguments, and evidences derived from these verses by various Shi'a exegetes.
Part Two: This section presents a scholarly analysis of the prevalent doubts and objections concerning Khatm-e-Nubuwwat. It clarifies the responses to these objections in the light of exegetical opinions, highlighting rebuttals based on Qur'anic reasoning, authentic Prophetic traditions, and rational arguments.
